Yamaha riders turned in podium filled performances at the King of MX event over the weekend, highlighted by the Kingsford family who took home their fare share of silverware from the Nowra Motorsport complex.
The event is seen as the New South Wales Motocross Championships and after a multi round qualifying system, the top competitors in each respective class fight it out for the honour of the “King of MX’ crown in a huge finale to the series.

Ryder Kingsford led the way for the GYTR Yamaha Junior Racing Team taking a win in the 12-13 years 85cc class on his YZ85. Kingsford finished with 1-1-2 results to claim the win on the day and the event provided the perfect lead up for the 13 year old racer, whose next challenge is the World Junior Motocross Championships in Italy in July.

He also backed that up with a third place finish on his YZ125 in the 13-14 years age group. Kingsford has really taken a liking to his 125 and as he grows in statue physically, he also grows in stature emotionally on the large capacity bike. He finished with 2-6-1 results over the weekend and if not for a fall while leading race two, the overall result may well have been much different.

“Things went pretty well over the weekend and five out of the six races I did were good. It was just that one crash on the 125 that let me down a little,” Kingsford explains. “Both bikes were going really well over the weekend and the Nowra club did a great job of preparing the track as it was fun and also challenging to ride as the day wore on.

“I have about another month or so before we leave for Italy and the World Junior Championships so its been a good event for me to do and race with all the good guys at a high intensity as that’s what I think I will come up against when I race over there.

“Thank you to the GYTR – Yamaha Junior Racing team and all our sponsors for the support this year, as well as my family and Darren Thompson for the effort they put in,” Ryder ends.

It was also straight to the top step of the podium for Victorian based Yamaha Junior Racing team member, Jobe Dunne , who took out victory in the 7-9 years 65cc class. Dunne made the trek north for the NSW state championships and was rewarded for his efforts with a ‘King of Mx’ crown.

Dunne finished with 1-1-2 results in the three motos and was a step above the competition when it really mattered most.

“I’m pretty pumped to win today and I felt awesome on the track,” Dunne commented. “The track was good fun and my starts were good and that made things much easier.

“Thank you to my family, Simon, Cam and Macca for helping me out as well as the Yamaha Junior Racing Team,’ Dunne said.

Kayd Kingsford also wanted in on the podium action and finished in second place in the 9-11 years 85cc class, just one point from the championship victory. Kayd finished with 1-2-2 results in some very close racing and made it a very successful weekend for the Kingsford family.

He also contested the 10-12 years 65cc class and came home in fourth place with three consistent motos.

“My goal was to win the 85 on the weekend and I came up a bit short but I had some good races with Koby and we had fun so that’s cool. On the 65, I feel like I’m just getting a bit big for it and having trouble moving around on it. My 85 riding gets better the bigger I get but makes it tougher on the 65.

“With my brother and I in four classes over the day, Mum, Dad and Thomo were wide open so thanks to them for getting my bikes ready for every race and in great condition. Also, thanks to the club for a good event as well as the Yamaha Junior Racing Team.”

There were also several other stand out performances by Yamaha supported riders at the event. Koby Hantis took home victory in the 9-11 years 85cc class making it a Yamaha 1-2 in that division as Hantis just edged out Kayd Kingsford.

It was also a Yamaha 1-2 in the 12-13 years 85cc group as Seth Burchell finished hot on the heels of class winner, Ryder Kingsford. While 15 year old Blake Hollis took home a podium in the 15 years 125cc class with a third place finish.
