The Australian Supercross Championship got underway in Queensland’s Brisbane Entertainement Centre on Saturday night where Jesse Dobson, aboard the MPE Husqvarna FC450, qualified fourth in the SX1 class but ultimately finished the night in 14th position, after a crash relegated Dobson to the B Main.

Jesse Dobson: “Last night was tough for me, I qualified well with 4th fastest and rode well during the day, but it didn’t come together for me in the night program. The track was tight, slick and made it difficult to find opportunities to pass, so when I made a mistake in my heat looking for ways forward, I ended up crashing and twisting my bike up. My team were awesome and worked hard to get the bike ready for the B Main. I had last gate pick on the very outside and managed to move through to sixth, setting the second fastest lap. The bike was great, I’m happy overall with how I rode, and how everyone involved in my program worked together, so I’m even more motivated to get to a bigger venue and show everyone what I’m capable of.”

The Supercross championship now heads to South Australia, where Dobson, still currently confirming the logistics, plans to once more race his FC450.

For those unfamiliar with the format, round one of the championship saw racers set a qualifying time that would decide which of the two heats they would race, with the top four in each heat would head straight to the A Main (those 8 races then also raced Superpole), with 5th to 9th heading to the B Main, where the top two places transfer to the A Main, and the remaining riders earn championship points. A Main racers then raced two 12-lap races.
