HONDA AUSTRALIA:

The battle for the Australian Superbike Championship came down to the wire yesterday with the Honda supported Oleon Oils Motologic Team going into this weekend’s final round assured of at least two out of three podium placings.

Glenn Allerton took his CBR1000RR over the line at the Phillip Island circuit finishing on the podium for the round, and securing second place in the Championship after a close battle with series winner Josh Waters.

Although he has powered through the last few rounds to become a serious contender for the title, Honda team mate Wayne Maxwell did not fare as well on the day after a massive high side hampered his points haul. Maxwell had enough points up his sleeve, however, to cement third place overall in the series.

Honda Australia would like to congratulate the Team and Motologic’s Owner Paul Free in particular on their outstanding efforts throughout the season, and for continuing to show the capabilities of the relatively stock standard bike.

Whilst the racing partnership between Motologic and Honda will not continue next year, Honda’s General Manager, Motorcycles, Tony Hinton said it is a moment of both joy and sadness.

“We have thoroughly enjoyed our relationship with Paul Free over a number of years, and have nothing but praise for the way he has managed our various Superbike, Supersport and Junior Development Teams,” Hinton said.

“Paul was at the helm when we won our first dual title with Adam ‘Krusty’ Fergusson in 2004 and again when Josh Brookes did the same the following year.”

“He also led the Team for Glenn Allerton’s title win in 2008 and followed it up with the excellent results for this season.”

“The number of young riders Paul has mentored and assisted through the ranks to senior level has been fantastic, and I think everyone on the circuit would agree that he is one of the most talented guys around today.”

“Although we will not be partnering with Motologic in 2010, we certainly wish Paul and his Team all the best for the future.”

“I have no doubt they will be highly successful in whatever they take on.”
