The final round of the 2018 Australian Supercross Championship (Aus X Open) saw Penrite-Pirelli CRF Honda Racing riders Kyle Webster and Jackson Richardson come out firing.

The biggest event of the season enjoyed sell-out crowds for the Saturday main events where both Webster and Richardson stepped up with Webster qualifying 3rd in the class just 0.13 seconds from the fastest lap set.

The all-important heat races were structured to only include 4 riders from each of the two heats to transfer directly into the finals. This meant the pressure was on as both Webster and Richardson ended up in the same heat, making the stakes even higher.

Fortunately, both Webster and Richardson hit form and pushed their CRF250R’s to 1st and 2nd place respectively with a powerful message to the competitors. This meant the team could settle in and focus on the 3 final format which was held later in the evening, whilst many of the competitors had to ponder over the LCQ to attempt to make it to the mains.

Final 1 started out well for Webster who made his way into 2 nd place early, whereas Richardson was pushed out in the first corner and had to battle his way through the pack. With only a couple of laps to go Webster had a small fall in a tight corner and was relegated back to P11, Richardson worked his way to 6th in the short 7 lap final format.

Final 2 had Richardson out front with his #1 plate Penrite-Pirelli Honda where he was able to ride solid fast laps and take the chequered flag in P1. Regrettably, Webster was involved in a heavy incident down the start straight and had to retire for the evening.

“I felt good tonight and was so much looking forward to finishing the Supercross season on a high. It has taken some time for me to re-build confidence for Supercross following my injury last year. Anyway,

I’m satisfied with the progress I have made this year as a racer and can’t wait to take it to the track in 2019. Now is time to take a much needed little break.” Webster said.

Final 3 saw another strong performance from Richardson where his FMF charged Honda was out front again for the holeshot and following his form from Final 2, he was able to again take the win.

Richardson took out 2 nd overall for the night, missing the top spot by 1 point to fellow Honda rider Cameron Mcadoo. Richardson was naturally thrilled to finally find the good form he had been chasing all season.

“Such a good feeling to get that chequered flag again. I’ve battled this season and really wanted to go out with a bang. The team has really backed me this year and I am so pleased to come away with a win and solid results for this final round.” Richardson said.

The team will now take a break whilst Team Principal Mark Luksich reviews the season and plan an even stronger 2019 campaign.
