Current Australian Supercross Championship SX2 points leader Jay Wilson says there was nothing pretty about racing in Port Adelaide’s Triple Crown on Saturday night, which saw him salvage fourth overall in what was a chaotic encounter.

The Yamalube Yamaha Racing ace was caught up in the mayhem that the three-race format has so far delivered, crashing into the path of a fallen rider in the opening race before going down at the start in the second eight-lap affair.

With a pair of eighth place results, the number six bounced back with victory in the final outing, salvaging what could have been a damaging night.

“There wasn’t anything pretty about racing tonight,” said Wilson. “Going down in the first two wasn’t good and I needed to stop the rot and get things back on track in that third one which I was able to do. I feel like I was challenged tonight and I was able to meet that challenge and salvage the best I could, given the circumstances I was in.

“It could have been ugly in the points, but that race win steadied the ship for me. Thanks to the team again tonight, those three final formats makes things pretty chaotic and when you throw in a couple of crashes, we were pretty busy between the races but the guys got it done and we leave here in pretty good shape.

“It’s far from over and with the final round being indoors makes it tough on everyone but I have done the work and have the best people behind me and I’m going to do my job the best that I can.”

Wilson holds an 11-point advantage in the SX2 ranking with just the Monster Energy AUS-X Open Sydney remaining next month, which is also set to feature the Triple Crown format.
