Ficeda Accessories press release:
Thanks to Penrite Honda’s Justin Brayton and Yamalube Yamaha’s Jay Wilson, Dunlop Geomax tyres once again proved to be the tyres to beat, with round two of the five-round championship held in Coolum on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast. Dunlop not only won the SX1 (450cc) class with Brayton, but took home all three podium positions while Wilson once again took the win in SX2 (250cc).
With Justin Brayton taking the lead in the early stages and eventually lapping up to sixth place, a lot of the action on track was focused on the podium positions with CDR Yamaha’s Nathan Crawford crashing out in the battle for third. Brett Metcalf and KTM’s Luke Clout eventually secured the spots despite a late crash from Clout.
An action-packed SX2 final saw injured DPH Husqvarna racer Hayden Mellross take the lead before a mistake allowed Serco Yamaha’s Wilson Todd and Kawasaki-mounted Aaron Tanti past. A hard-charging Jay Wilson moved through to eventually take the win with Todd third and Mellross fourth.
Dunlop Motorsport Manager Robbie Bugden: “What an afternoon of racing! Well done to Justin Brayton and Jay Wilson, both once again taking the line honours and retaining their respective championship leads. It was exciting to see CDR Yamaha’s Nathan Crawford in the mix in his first outing for the team, but ultimately tough to see him unable to finish after falling awkwardly. Hopefully it’s a speedy recovery for the talented Queenslander. We’re proud that the Geomax range of tyres continues to dominate racing in Australia, as it does in the USA. While Dunlop continues to use racing as a testing bed around the world, the Geomax range offers riders a huge selection that ultimately continues to prove itself as the benchmark in performance.”
The Australian Supercross Championship shifts gears with Geelong in the huge GMHBA stadium this coming Saturday.
