Queenslander hopeful of AUS Supercross appearances .
Todd Waters has concluded his campaign in the 2018 MXGP World Championship with a 17-17 scorecared for 17th overall at Imola’s 20th and final round in Italy over the weekend.
Waters was a surprise entry into the grand prix series, being drafted into the Honda HRC squad in May to replace the injured Brian Bogers, only to break his collarbone in his first qualification race at Latvia, further delaying his return to the world series.
His deal with the factory outfit came to an end at the Turkish grand prix, although he was handed an opportunity with Team Honda Redmoto Assomotor to complete the final rounds of the championship.
“It’s been a crazy year (so far) and I’m happy that I was able to push and race as hard as I could this weekend,” Waters explained. “Always consistent – [I] finished 17th and 17th for 17th overall. Tuesday morning we catch the long flight back to Australia. Excited to head home and hopefully make an appearance at the final rounds of [AUS Supercross].”
The popular Queenslander wound up 24th in the championship ranking after contesting 10 rounds, with his best finish of 13th overall coming at the MXGP of Asia.
Waters was initially linked to a seat with the Penrite Honda Racing outfit for the Australian Supercross Championship, although his last minute opportunity in MXGP denied him of a chance at challenging in the entire series.
