Two-time defending SX1 champion Justin Brayton has highlighted a cap on how fast you can push on an Australian supercross circuit, which became evident at the weekend’s opening round in Jimboomba, Queensland.

A combination of soil and technicality in comparison to that of in the Monster Energy AMA Supercross Championship is what leads Brayton to believe there’s certain limit of speed that can be maintained, stating it levels the field and ultimately benefits fans.

“The biggest thing is the tracks,” Brayton said to MotoOnline.com.au. “The tracks only allow you to go a certain speed – there’s definitely a cap on how fast you can go. I like that because it brings everyone closer, it works my race craft and the racing is so much closer. As a fan, that’s awesome, as a rider, I’d rather it be really gnarly and technical like we have in the states.

“You can only go so fast with the dirt being dry – the track crew did an amazing job to keep moisture in it all day. It was nice and warm today, so they still did a god job and there were some ruts.”

The Penrite Honda Racing rider dominated proceedings on Saturday, lodging the fastest lap in qualifying before capturing victories in his heat race and the main event. The Australian Supercross Championship now visits Coolum in Queensland for round two of the series on 6 October.
