Ferris makes it four in a row for Dunlop

Ficeda Accessories press release:

The best motocross racers in Australia hit Gladstone on Sunday for the penultimate round of the MX Nationals where CDR Yamaha Monster Energy’s Dean Ferris sealed his third, and Dunlop’s fourth, premier-class championship win in a row.

Racing was back to the traditional practice/qualifying followed by two 30-minute races for MX1 (450cc), while MX2 (250cc) competitors raced 30-minute and 20-minute motos, with Yamalube Yamaha’s Jay Wilson taking an emotional overall round win.

Dean Ferris once again dominated the MX1 class, taking pole position and leading both races from start to finish, giving the 28-year-old an impressive 14 from 18 race wins, and nine overall round wins in a row, with only two races and one round left in the series. Penrite Honda’s Brett Metcalfe took the third overall for the weekend with a consistent 2-4 finish.

Dean Ferris: “While the team and I work hard each and every week, tyres are super important, especially here in Australia with our typical hard-terrain tracks. Having Dunlop tyres is a real advantage.”

Dunlop Motorsport Manager Robbie Bugden: “What an impressive season it’s been for Dean Ferris, dominating the MX1 class and producing the 50th title for Craig Dack Racing, a team Dunlop has been partnered with for over 25 years! Congratulations to Dean, Dacka and the entire CDR Yamaha Monster Energy Team. The Dunlop Geomax range of tyres continues to prove a competitive advantage and with the new MX33 now available in store, this is only going to continue. Jay Wilson, a rider with a young family, and wearing his heart on his sleeve, was great to see on the top of the MX2 podium, while Wilson Todd’s raw speed is impressive to watch. He takes a 57-point lead into the final round, where 70 points are on offer. It’s going to come down to the wire!”

Wilson Todd and Jay Wilson qualified 1-2 in the MX2 class, setting the tone early that they would be ones to watch. When the gate dropped in race one, it was Wilson Todd out in front before a crash saw the Serco racer finish sixth. Race two saw the two Wilsons battle it out all race, with Todd eventually taking the win, but a 3-2 result for Jay gave him the overall victory.

The final round of the MX Nationals heads to Coolum in Queensland next weekend. Although the title is wrapped up, we’ll be right behind Luke Clout, Dylan Long and Brett Metcalf as they look to secure their final places in the MX1 Championship, and Wilson Todd attempts to secure his first MX2 title.
