It was a gruelling affair for Todd Waters at Semarang’s 13th round of the MXGP World Championship in Indonesia as he pushed through an illness in both Saturday and Sunday’s proceedings.

The Queenslander contracted a stomach bug Friday evening, and combined with extremely hot weather conditions, it completely sapped his energy for the two 30-minute plus two-lap motos.

Despite the illness, and the fact he’s still returning to fitness from a collarbone injury, the Honda HRC ace resiliently lodged a 12-16 scorecard for 13th overall.

“It was another difficult day for me as unfortunately my health did not improve during the night,” Waters admitted. “I did all my best out there but I was obviously lacking strength, and I was not already on top of my game after making a late season debut and injuring my collarbone in Latvia.

“We are now going back to Europe and we’ll have a few days to recover and then get ready for the next round, where hopefully I will be able to step up my game.”

Waters will have two weeks to recover before the MXGP World Championship returns to action at Loket in the Czech Republic on 22 July.
