Youthful Australian contender third overall at the Italian round.
A career-first moto victory in race two at Ottobiano’s seventh round of the 2018 European Motocross Championship has granted youthful Australian Jett Lawrence his maiden EMX250 podium in just his rookie season.
The 14-year-old charged to 10th in the opening affair after a mistake relegated him a number of positions, however his most impressive display came in Sunday’s instalment when he made a pass for the lead and secured a commanding 6.788s victory.
The Team Suzuki Germany was in disbelief to earn a race win so early on in his transition to the competitive category, describing the incredible result as simply amazing.
“[I] had fun this weekend at the Ottobiano GP,” Lawrence commented. “First moto I was in fifth until I made a mistake and dropped to seventh – I had stomach cramps so I faded like a squid to 10th.
“[The] next day was so much better – I got a good start and made my way forward to pass first then just controlled the lead to get my first win in EMX250. I can’t believe I did it and then got on the podium for third overall – the feeling is amazing.”
The podium has promoted Lawrence to 17th in the EMX250 championship standings as the series returns to action on 5 August at Lommel in Belgium.
