Jay Wilson remains right in the MX2 championship hunt on board his Yamalube Yamaha Racing YZ250F, despite not being satisfied with his weekend’s efforts, after rounds three and four of the MX Nationals were conducted at a challenging Wonthaggi circuit.

Fresh from a podium finish at Appin a few weeks ago, Wilson hit the ground running for round three and posted 3-4 results to finish the day in fourth place and consolidate his position inside the top four in the championship.

He again posted another top five finish in race one on Sunday morning but the afternoon race proved costly as he was involved in a crash that saw him take some time to get back to his feet and re-join the race. He came across the finish line well outside the top 20 and in a shorter 20-minute race, he had plenty of work to on a wet, heavy track.

He slowly moved his way forward and clawed his way from 29th to 14th before he ran out of time to improve his position further. The 5-14 scores left him in eighth for the day and he now sits fourth in the championship but determined to make amends next weekend at Murray Bridge.

“When I look back at the weekend, I know there are things I would do differently if I had the chance,” Wilson begins. “I don’t get too worked up about the results, I just focus on the way I ride and the decision I make on the track and I need to learn from them and be better next week.

“Saturday I had good speed and track position but I didn’t make the most of it, while Sunday I was just over riding the track and trying to force my way around the track rather than ride with instinct and feel.

“If I can take a few things I didn’t do well at Wonthaggi and put them into practice during the week and on the racetrack this weekend at Murray Bridge, I’m sure I can be a front runner,” Wilson ends.

Round five action picks up this weekend at Murray Bridge in South Australia and with the top six riders separated by just over 30 points, it will make for some intense racing in the MX2 class.

Team mate Richie Evans missed the Wonthaggi rounds due to a hand injury sustained at Appin in round two and isn’t expected back until round six at Conondale as he recovers from recent surgery.
