Penrite CRF Honda Racing’s Kyle Webster has broken through for a career-first overall victory in the MX2 category of the Pirelli MX Nationals at today’s third round of the series in Wonthaggi, Victoria.

Webster dominated the opening MX2 moto of the round, leading from the outset and drawing out a commanding 14.588s advantage by the conclusion of 30 minutes plus one lap.

While the number 96 was in control out front, red plate-holder Nathan Crawford (Serco Yamaha) recovered from an average start to take second, overcoming Jay Wilson (Yamalube Yamaha Racing) in the latter stages.

After running as high as second, supercross champion Jackson Richardson (Penrite Pirelli CRF Honda Racing) crossed the line in P4, narrowly holding Hamish Harwood (Davey Motorsports KTM) at bay.

The top 10 places were filled by reigning champion Egan Mastin (KTM Motocross Racing Team), top qualifier Wilson Todd (Serco Yamaha), Dylan Wills (DPH Motorsport Husqvarna), Kale Makeham (Yamaha) and Jayden Rykers (Raceline Pirelli KTM).

Opening round winner Aaron Tanti (Complete Parts Kawasaki Racing) was outside of the top 30 at the end of lap one, eventually clawing his way back to P12 by the chequered flag.

The second moto in MX2 saw Todd take his first moto win of the season, crossing the line 17.378s ahead of teammate Crawford, who again had to work hard on his way to second position. The early laps were led by current champion Mastin before Webster took his turn at the front, eventually claiming third after being dislodged by Yamaha duo Todd and Crawford.

It was another credible performance from Wilson in fourth, as he got the better of Mastin, Harwood, Wills and Tanti – that group finishing in relatively close formation. Newcomer Jy Roberts (Husqvarna) took ninth, as Rykers completed both motos in 10th.

Overall for the round it was Webster who broke through to stand atop the podium, trailed by the ever-consistent Crawford – who continues to lead the championship – and teammate Todd. Riders will be back on-track tomorrow at Wonthaggi for the fourth round of the championship.
