Queenslander unbeaten through Adelaide 500 race-week.
Multiple Australian champion Dan Reardon was the big winner during the inaugural Adelaide 500 Split Rhythm, throwing his support behind the innovative world-first event that took place in South Australia alongside the Supercars opener.
The New Holland-backed concept took the place of endurocross for the 2018 edition and has been hailed a success by those involved, with Reardon unbeaten over the course of race-week on a near-stock Yamaha YZ450F.
“I actually wasn’t supposed to be back in Australia from the UK, but when everything changed I tried really hard to get down to the event,” Reardon told MotoOnline.com.au. “It was just awesome and the whole weekend was run really, really well. As athletes it was perfect and I swept the weekend with 48 starts, 48 wins. I had a blast! You had to be super-clean, but really fast, so it was a lot of fun.”
Reardon, who had support from Oil Field Piping System and Broken Hill Conveyancing across the event, won all eight finals and the overall to pocket $15,000 in prize money. He was joined on the podium by the likes of Dylan Long (CDR Yamaha), Brett Metcalfe (Penrite Honda Racing) and Jackson Richardson (Penrite CRF Honda Racing) – who was on a CRF450R – throughout the event.
“We’ve seen straight rhythms in the past, but the Split Rhythm was good because we had a couple of corners in there,” he continued. “It really made things interesting and both lanes were similar.
“Any time one lane might’ve been a little bit faster or a berm was blowing out, that type of thing, they fixed it straight away. They understand it’s a show and the racing was super-close. By no means did I do it easy – I had to work very hard to get it right in every race, so I’m pumped.”
With Reardon not committing to a full-time ride for the 2018 season, having just contested the Arenacross Tour in the UK, his next scheduled appearance is set to be at the Glen Helen round of Pro Motocross with Fasthouse in the 125 Dream Race.
