Sherco has officially confirmed that Matthew Phillips has opted to remain in the EnduroGP World Championship for the 2018 season, going back on his initial decision to retire from European competition.

It was announced July that the 24-year-old four-time world champion would quit the EnduroGP series at the conclusion of this season, however an announcement from the CH Racing team overnight has revealed he will race-on for another season.

Phillips has become one of the most high-profile stars of EnduroGP since transitioning to Europe in 2013, winning the Enduro Junior championship that season before going on to capture the 2014 Enduro3 title, plus claiming both the inaugural EnduroGP and Enduro2 titles in 2016. This year he was fourth in the EnduroGP standings.

The EnduroGP World Championship will revert to three categories for the 2018 season, which is understood to have played a pivotal role in Phillips’ decision to continue in the championship. Enduro1, Enduro2 and Enduro3 will be the primary classes, with EnduroGP the outright division based on overall standings.
