The seventh and final round of the 2009 Woodstock Bourbon Australian Superbike Championship is underway at Phillip Island in Victoria this morning, with rain greeting the riders and teams on arrival to the circuit.
Defending series champion Glenn Allerton currently leads the point standings on 253 points for Oleon Motologic Racing, with Team Joe Rocket Suzuki’s Josh Waters just two points in arrears on 251 and Allerton’s teammate Wayne Maxwell on 244 in third.
The opening practice for the Superbike category will take place at 11.00am this morning, with practice two scheduled for 2.50pm this afternoon – both expected to be damp.
Its forecast to be a wet weekend in the championship decider, with all three title contenders already previously proving their abilities in the rain during the season to date.
Other official Australian championship titles up for grabs during the weekend are the Supersport, Superstock 1000, Superstock 600 and 125cc Grand Prix categories. The weekend will also feature the Sidecars and Aussie Racing Cars, while the Harvey Wiltshire Memorial Trophy race will be contested as the final event on Sunday afternoon.
