Former MX Nationals MX2 champion Jay Wilson executed the type of performance that he consistently put forward in 2015 with a dominant SX2 victory at Jimboomba’s final round of the 2017 Australian Supercross Championship on Saturday night.

Just one week after his special Monster Energy AUS-X Open podium, Wilson qualified quickest, topped his heat and blitzed to victory in the 250 class final over the weekend in a result that sealed him third in the standings.

It’s been a spectacular way to round out supercross for Wilson and one that could see him back in title contention both outdoors and in for next year. With confidence mounting and the results to prove it, a home round win in Queensland was another significant result that will further boost his rekindled professional career.

“Wow! The last round at Jimboomba was absolutely everything I’ve been working towards – we qualified fastest, won the heat race and the main event so we couldn’t have done any more,” Wilson explained. “My fiance, my daughter, my brother and my mum were all here for this moment and I’m so proud that I could do this for them. The conditions were absolutely brutal – we had so much rain before we went racing, but I just rode the track for what it was, stayed patient and made sure we got the starts that we needed to get the win.”

The supercross season has seen a popular return to form for Wilson, who spent the confidence-sapping opening part of the year with an under-resourced Yamaha team in the MX2 World Championship, only to part ways and return home, eventually picking up a position with Raceline for the back-half of the MX Nationals.

“At the halfway point in the year Chris Woods and Raceline gave me a lifeline,” he added. “It was the opportunity to go racing with no expectations and to just try and get back to where I know that I belong. Finally, we got there, and the hard work has certainly paid off, so I can’t thank everyone enough for their support – I can’t wait for 2018.”
