The 2017 Australian Supercross Championship is underway, with DPH Motorsport once again showing that they’re a serious threat in both the SX1 and SX2 classes.

After a 1-2 finish in their first SX2 heat, Hayden Mellross & Wilson Todd showed early that they would be setting the pace, but it was Mellross that went on from a 4th place start to churn out 15 consistent laps to take the win, with a best lap time that rivalled those in the SX1 class, while getting held up on the start line, Wilson Todd came through the field for 5th.

With a 2nd place finish in his heat, it was Kade Mosig with the holeshot in the SX1 Final, but a mistake from Dylan Long in the early stages of the race saw Mosig held up and shuffled down the order taking the chequered flag in 10th position.

Kade Mosig: “I felt good all day today, and I’m happy to carry my strong starts towards the end of the motocross season into supercross, but it was tough to go from battling for the lead to almost last, but that’s racing. I had nowhere to go when Dylan (Long) went down, so I just concentrated on turning out consistent laps and moving through the field as fast as I could tonight” said Mosig after the race.

Hayden Mellross: “I’m really happy to start the season off like this!” an ecstatic Mellross said. “I felt really good all day on track, and I knew that I would be able to maintain some consistent, strong laps come the final. I got off the gate well, but I still came through in 4th so used my speed in the whoops to make passes each lap, before working my way towards Gavin Faith. Once I made the pass, I was able to stick to my plan and to come away with a 10 second winning margin”.

Wilson Todd: “After feeling pretty strong through the day, I knew I had the speed to be able to run at the front come the final, but I didn’t get out of the gate and had my work cut out for me from the start” said Wilson after the race. “once I did get going I got into a good rhythm and made some passes to work my way to 5th by the time I crossed the line”.

For Team Owner Dale Hocking, it gives a renewed sense of achievement, moving from motocross to supercross: “For many of us, Supercross is our favourite time of the year, racing under lights, spectacular action and plenty of people coming to check it out, so to have Hayden taking a win, and both Wilson and Kade showing that they have the speed and drive to be at the front, it just goes to show what our small family based team is capable off!” he said just as the transporter rolled out.

“I’m forever grateful to all our partners and supporters, and especially the core group of people that makes up DPH Motorsport, without the people behind the riders, the bikes would still be a pile of parts and we’d also all go hungry, so thanks to each one of you that makes our team what it is.”

DPH Motorsport now heads back to Melbourne to prepare for the final round of the Australian Superbike Championship, before round 2 of the Australian Supercross Championship in Bacchus Marsh.
