DPH Motorsport press release:
DPH Motorsport has finished the 2017 MX Nationals with Maddy Brown taking the Women’s Championship, Wilson Todd 2nd in MX2 and Kade Mosig with 3rd in the MX1 class for a hard fought 1-2-3.
All eyes were on the battle for the MX2 Championship after Wilson was given clearance to race after what can only be described as a controversial incident in Saturday’s practice, resulting in a concussion for the Queenslander. Racing to a 3-2 finish, it was one sole mistake while leading the second moto that dropped Wilson to 2nd in the race and ultimately, the championship.
MX2 team mate, Hayden Mellross once again showed impressive speed leading the first moto and racing to 4th in the second, but an uncharacteristic mechanical DNF with a clutch issue ultimately dropped him to 16th overall, while Deakin Hellier went 15-13 in the 125 Amateur Cup on Saturday for 14th overall.
In the MX1 class, Mosig took a 4-6 result for 5th overall, cementing his 3rd place in the championship and his position as one of Australia’s premier racers, while Maddy Brown took 1-1-1-2 results over her 4 races to take out the Women’s Championship.
Dale Hocking: “A huge congratulations to Maddy for taking out the Womens Championship over the weekend. She continues to prove herself and improve every time she jumps on the bike” said Hocking. “So proud of the entire team. No matter what the challenge has been this year, everyone has given everything and to once again put not one, but 3 racers in podium positions against some the best riders in the world is a credit to everyone. For Wilson to ride the way he did today was amazing. While cleared to ride, he wasn’t at 100% but he gave more than that on the track today, taking the title down to the wire and only a slight mistake let it slip away. Kade has continued to work hard all year, and every round saw noticeable improvement that ensured he was one of the riders to watch all season”.
Kade Mosig: “I put everything into this year. I felt like my preparation was great, and when I look back at the season, I’m happy with how I handled everything that was thrown at me, but I fell short of my personal goal” said Kade. ‘I’m so happy to give the team a podium in the championship, and to not only battle with, but beat factory teams is a great achievement, but I’m a racer, and I won’t be satisfied unless I’m on the top step! I can’t thank Dale, Pynee, our sponsors and the entire DPH team enough.”
Wilson Todd: “That was a tough weekend. I was confident coming into the meeting that I could win, but the crash on Saturday really threw a spanner in the works and I’m disappointed that things went the way they did. After getting the clearance to race, I wasn’t 100% but I wanted that championship, so in the first race I just hung in there for 3rd, moving into 2nd by 2 points in the championship. The final race, my only option was to win and after leading for the first half, I was confident I could do it, but I hit a hole and crashed, putting me in 2nd and that’s where I stayed”.
Hayden Mellross: Congratulations to the team on the results this year, 1-2-3 in the respective classes is pretty impressive for a privateer race team, I hope come the final round of supercross I can add to the list of achievements! As for my races this weekend, things just didn’t go my way. I had good speed, and great starts but I was just off the pace needed to win. It was definitely the right decision to race these last rounds as I’ve got some direction to keep working and really fire into the first supercross round.
Maddy Brown: “I’m so pumped to have that number 1 plate on the bike!! Jess (Moore) pushed me all the way this weekend, I think in one race we were almost a minute in front of 3rd, which just goes to show how hard we were pushing. 3 wins and 2nd, I just can’t stop smiling right now!” DPH Motorsport heads to Morgan Park next weekend for round 5 of the ASBK, while Kade Mosig & Wilson Todd switch their focus to supercross and Hayden Mellross jets back to the US to race MXGP in Florida.
