Penrite CRF Honda Racing’s Kyle Webster has completed the 2017 MX Nationals championship in style with two MX2 class podium performances at the tenth and final round staged at the Coolum Pines track on the Queensland Sunshine Coast on Sunday.

Once again Webster took to the track in a determined frame of mind from the moment he first rolled his Autolite spark plug equipped and Pro-Moto suspension tuned Honda CRF250R thumper out of the pits, by laying down the fastest time in the morning’s MX2 Qualifying session.

Then in the day’s two points paying MX2 motos, Webster displayed more of the form that has seen him snare multiple podium placings in this year’s championship, to finish second in moto one and third in moto two, to give him third overall in class on the day. The performance saw Webster tie with second placed Wilson Todd (Yamaha), the pair completing the day’s overall podium behind round and championship winner Egan Mastin (KTM).

“Overall Coolum was a really great finish to the championship for me,” enthused Webster after the grand finale.

“Getting P1 in Qualifying was a great start to the day, and then in the first moto I got a good start and was running around fifth, but then managed to work my way up to second and even started to catch up to Egan (Mastin), but ran out of tear-offs near the end.

“So I knew I had good speed at Coolum and was feeling strong for the final race of the year, but then in race two I got a shocking start and had to do so much work to come through,” Webster continued, “so to get up to third by the chequered flag and get another podium placing, as well as third overall for the round, was a good result.

I felt pretty awesome all day and flowed really well.”

In the final MX2 standings, Webster finished fifth overall after a long and gruelling MX Nationals campaign, the Penrite CRF Honda Racing rider completing the series behind Mastin, Todd, Mitch Evans (Yamaha) and Hamish Harwood (KTM).

“It’s been a huge season in the MX Nationals this year, with so many fast riders in MX2,” Webster explained, “so I’m stoked to finish the championship with a good result at the final round at Coolum.

“I’d like to say thanks to my mechanic, Mick, everyone involved with the Penrite CRF Honda Racing team, and all the sponsors and supporters that make it possible for us to go racing at a national level, we just couldn’t do it without them.

“Now I’m looking forward to getting into supercross mode with the 2017 Australian Supercross Championship kicking off next month,” Webster enthused.

Webster’s Penrite CRF Honda Racing team mate Joel Wightman is hopeful of being back in action for the supercross season, the NSW Hunter Valley rider having been sidelined by injury since late June.

The six-round, four-state 2017 Australian Supercross Championship kicks off at Jimboomba, Queensland, on September 23, then charges through rounds in Bacchus Marsh (Victoria), Virginia (South Australia), and Sydney (NSW), before the final round back at Jimboomba, and once again the Penrite CRF Honda Racing team will be amongst the thick of the on-track action all series long.
