Experienced international in favour of representing Australia at Matterley Basin.
Mega Fuels Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Brett Metcalfe has confirmed his interest in being selected to represent Australia at the 2017 Monster Energy FIM Motocross of Nations (MXoN) at Matterley Basin, United Kingdom, on 1 October.
Metcalfe has represented the country on six occasions, and was a member of the 2011 team that earned Australia its maiden podium at the event. His last appearance was in 2013, where he assisted Australia to fourth overall.
“As far as nominating people, I don’t they (Motorcycling Australia) have selected the team,” Metcalfe said to MotoOnline.com.au. “But yeah, I’m interested to go, I’m just waiting to see who they choose – I’m definitely interested in going.
“It’s arguably the biggest race of the year for motocross across the world, so anyone that has the opportunity to go, it’s a huge honour to represent your country. I’ve been lucky enough to go – I was just thinking about it the other night – I’ve done six MXoN, so I’ve been fortunate.
“The last one I did was in 2013, it’s been a while. I’ve had a lot of success being a part of the 2011 team where we finished third with Chad [Reed] and Matt [Moss], and then again in 2013 finishing fourth overall. It’s been a good experience and I’d definitely love to have that again.
“If it comes up, cool, but if it doesn’t, I’ve been there and had a good run at it. But I’d definitely love to have one more run, if not, I’ll definitely support team Australia all the way.”
Motorcycling Australia is yet reveal who will sport green and gold at the 2017 edition, although an announcement from the governing body is expected in the coming month.
Since returning to the Motul MX Nationals and making the recent switch to the Troy Carroll-operated Kawasaki outfit, Metcalfe has soared to his usual form, scoring two podiums at the previous two rounds.
