Reigning Australian MX2 champion Jed Beaton has been entered as part of Team HRC ahead of this weekend’s MX2 World Championship round in the Czech Republic.

Beaton will line up at Loket for his world championship debut this weekend, with an official announcement from Honda expected to be released this week.

The Tasmanian has been contesting the European Motocross Championship so far in 2017, currently 17th in the standings after missing recent races with a broken collarbone. He’s since undergone surgery on the injury in a bid to be fit for his scheduled MX2 appearance.

“[MX2 races] were on the cards for sure and always a goal,” Beaton told MotoOnline.com.au. “Now I get the opportunity while there is no EMX on – I couldn’t be more keen to race MX2. My expectations are just to ride the best I possibly can and see what the results are from there and try improving them each race.”

Beaton, who’s a member of the Honda-backed Carglass Racing outfit, was unable to share details of his deal for the weekend, however the MX2 entry list suggests he’ll pilot a factory CRF250RW for Team HRC MX2, which is a seat that’s previously been filled by Lars Van Berkel and Anthony Rodriguez. Both were on two-round deals in place of the injured Chihiro Notsuka.

It’s yet to be announced how many MX2 events Beaton will take part in, but with the EMX250 championship not returning until 13 August in Switzerland, he’s indicated it will be more than a one-off outing: “I think details should be released in the next couple of days to what I’m doing, but at the moment I can’t say much. More appearances are on the cards.”
