Dunlop’s dominance in the MX1 category continues after occupying first and third positions on the podium at the end of an action-packed day of racing at Nowra’s sixth round of the 2017 MX Nationals in New South Wales.

Defending MX1 champion Dean Ferris attacked the technical circuit again with winning form aboard his CDR Yamaha to capture a perfect 1-1 victory, his sixth of the season.

Ferris jumped to the early lead in moto one and began to stretch an impressive lead over the field immediately. As the chequered flag flew it was the former MXGP racer who claimed victory by over 15 seconds.

The only rider to beat Ferris in a moto this season, 2015 MX1 champion Kirk Gibbs of the KTM Motocross Racing Team finished his opening moto in third position.

Moto two saw Ferris battle through from a top five start in the afternoon sun to again stretch out a lead that saw him cross the line over 10 seconds ahead of his nearest competitor.

DPH Motosport Yamaha’s Kade Mosig bounced back from a challenging opening moto to finish third ahead of fourth-place rider Gibbs.

Maintaining his perfect overall run as the series returned to action, Ferris stood atop the premier class podium with Gibbs earning a consistent third for the sixth round of the season.

In the MX2 category it was Serco Yamaha’s Jackson Richardson who captured third in the opening moto followed by DPH Motorsport Yamaha’s series leader Wilson Todd in fourth.

Moto two saw Richardson improve on his earlier performance as he stretched out a lead of over 13 seconds to capture his first moto victory of the 2017 season. Behind him it was teammate Mitch Evans who finished third after taking a hard fall in moto one.

Using his 3-1 moto scorecard for the day Richardson made his way to the winner’s circle with in second overall, a positive result for the returning Australian racer.

“We’re proud to see Dean capture yet another overall win at Nowra and continue his perfect season,” said Dunlop national motorcycle manager Sebastian Mincone. “With Kirk on the MX1 podium, Jackson capturing his first MX2 moto win of the season and Wilson continuing to lead the MX2 points, it was a very satisfying day overall.”

The 2017 MX Nationals will take a brief one-week break before returning at Shepparton in Victoria on 16 July for round seven.
