Current Australian SX2 champion Jackson Richardson broke through for a first Motul MX Nationals MX2 moto victory of 2017 at Nowra, setting him up for a run at the title with Serco Yamaha.

The North Queenslander went 3-1 for second overall, despite having to claw his way back from as far down the order as 10th in the opening encounter. It was a measured performance on-board his YZ250F.

“I put in two good motos today and was finally able to break through for a race win,” Richardson recalled. “At nearly every round this year I have been in positions to win races, but I haven’t been able to do it, so it’s a relief to finally win one and know that I can do it.

“The championship is really tight between four of us and no-one can afford to make a mistake with just eight races left. I feel like I’m hitting good form at the right time and will continue to work hard to ensure I give myself every opportunity to win this thing. Thank you to Serco Yamaha again for their support and it’s nice to reward everyone with a podium today.”

Upon return to Australia full-time this season, Richardson’s fourth in the championship standings and now just 19 points outside of current leader Wilson Todd with four rounds remaining.
