Reigning Australian national champion Dean Ferris starred in his one-off Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship appearance at High Point, claiming second in moto one.

Ferris was third on combined qualifying times and then stunned when he moved into the lead in the mid-stages of the opening moto.

The CDR Yamaha regular led his share before eventual winner and new points leader Blake Baggett (Rocky Mountain ATV/MC KTM WPS) made his way by and Ferris brought his YZ450F home in second.

“I didn’t actually know where I was going to be at, but I just knew I had to get a good start and dealt with the heat,” Ferris said post-race. “I got a good start, passed Josh [Grant] and a few other guys, so I’m really happy with it. I just want to thank my mechanics, Brad [McAlpine] and Aidan [Meltzer] for coming over, CDR Yamaha, Rock River Yamaha for putting me up this weekend and all my family back home.”

Moto two was affected by a first turn crash and Ferris completed the opening lap down in 25th position, eventually climbing to 14th to salvage an impressive seventh position overall.

The round was won by Baggett after he went 1-2, while Jason Anderson (Rockstar Energy Husqvarna) was second and Broc Tickle (RCH Yoshimura Suzuki) third. Moto two winner Eli Tomac (Monster Energy Kawasaki) was fourth overall.

In the 250 Class, Jeremy Martin (GEICO Honda) went 2-1 for the round victory, edging points leader Zach Osborne (Rockstar Energy Husqvarna), who went 1-2 for the weekend. Third on the podium was Aaron Plessinger (Yamalube/Star Racing/Yamaha).
