DPH Motorsport press release:
Although DPH Motorsport has contested 2 rounds of both the ASBK and MX Nationals respectively, the true challenge for the team is about to become a reality as the races begin landing on consecutive weekends. Leaving round 2 of the motocross, the team transporter headed back to base for a clean and machinery swap before heading back to Winton for round 3 of the ASBK on April 30!
In what was to be a challenging but successful campaign at Appin, NSW for round 2 of the MX Nationals where DPH fielded not 2 but 4 riders, with the return of Maddy Brown from Europe contesting MX2 and Deakin Hellier in the Rising Star Rookies 250 class. “We left Appin with mixed feelings, I’m really proud of the entire team, how each individual performed and how the team presented to, and interacted with the fans, but I also know that each and every person is driven to not just do well, but to win” a measured Dale Hocking said.
“I know that Kade is not content with 5th overall, that Wilson wants to be on the top step, while Maddy really felt the effects of returning from Europe right before the race weekend, so while I’m happy to once again be mixing it with the factory teams, I want more just like the rest of my team”. MX1 rider Kade Mosig once again showed that he’s a title threat going 5-4 for 5th overall on the challenging Appin circuit.
“If I’m honest, I’m happy to have gathered good points & sit in 3rd in the championship but I’m still disappointed. My goal is to be on top come round 10, and I won’t do that coming 5th in such a competitive field” Mosig said after the second race “Appin was always going to a challenge, and one that I was ready for, so we’ll head home, go over the data and keep pushing forward for round3”
Wilson Todd’s feelings were much the same in the smaller capacity class, “3-2 for 2nd overall isn’t a bad result, but doesn’t reflect my riding and reduces my championship lead to 3 points” a somewhat deflated Todd stated “I got caught up with a lapped rider, falling and lost track position which hurt my results, but otherwise it wasn’t a bad weekend walking away with the red plate still”.
Fresh from contesting the MXGP WMX class in Italy, Maddy Brown decided at the 11th hour to race against the guys at Appin in the MX2 class. “I wasn’t happy with how I rode in Italy, so I just wanted to jump on a bike and race as soon as I could, so I have to thank the entire team for getting my bike ready on such short notice.
I finished the weekend 26th after finishing 24-28 and while I’m happy with the result, I don’t feel like I really earned it, I felt really fatigued from the trip home from Europe and so my own intensity was lower than what I expect it to be” said Brown.
Rising Star Rookies 250 class competitor Deakin Hellier pushed hard in the tough, rough conditions to a consistent 19-19 for 20th overall for the weekend “Appin really threw it at us today that’s for sure!” a positive Hellier stated “I knew it was going to be tough this weekend, but I didn’t expect the track to be so different from race 1 to race 2 and it really tested my strength, fitness and bike control”.
Supersport 300 & R3 Cup racer Boyd Hocking, on hand at Appin supporting the MX guys, is looking forward to round 3 of the ASBK next weekend at Winton, Victoria “I had a great test session a few weeks ago that gave me a lot of confidence. I still have a lot to learn in the dry, and while I feel good on the bike in wet, I really want to keep improving my racecraft, so I can’t wait for Friday to get here so I can back on the bike!”
At the time of writing, news has just filtered through that Supersport racer Luke Mitchell has been given medical clearance to race this coming weekend, stay tuned for more details shortly. For complete results of all classes from Round 2 of the MX Nationals please click here.
