Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Eli Tomac has captured victory at the Daytona Supercross by Honda, in another action-filled round of the 2017 Monster Energy AMA Supercross Championship.

The early laps were led by 450SX class first-timer Jeremy Martin – filling in for Ken Roczen at Team Honda HRC – until Tomac took control and sprinted away at the front.

Tomac was trailed by the impressive Martin in a significant result on debut, while Jason Anderson (Rockstar Energy Husqvarna) rounded out the top three.

A charging Ryan Dungey (Red Bull KTM) came from P17 all the way through to fourth after getting Cole Seely (Team Honda HRC) on the final lap, while Chad Reed (Monster Energy/Yamalube/Chaparral/Yamaha Financial Services/Yamaha) salvaged sixth after crashing heavily mid-race.

The point-standings now see Dungey – with two wins to his credit in 2017 – still leading on 214 points, 17 ahead of Tomac, who rode to a fifth main event win of the season in Daytona. Reed is seventh.

In the East Coast 250SX main event, Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki’s Adam Cianciarulo withstood pressure from teammate Joey Savatgy to claim his first victory since 2014.

Cianciarulo’s eventual margin of victory was 4.018s in a 1-2 for the KX250Fs, while Frenchman Dylan Ferrandis (Yamalube/Star Racing/Yamaha) completed the podium – his first in the US.

Points leader Zach Osborne (Rockstar Energy Husqvarna) ran as high as third in the early laps, before going down in the sand section and later recovering for fifth. He holds a six-point lead over Savatgy, with Cianciarulo third and just nine points out.

The 2017 Monster Energy AMA Supercross series will now travel to Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Indiana, for round 11 of the championship next Saturday, 18 March.
