Premier class rookie missing his third-straight race weekend.
The injured Cooper Webb will continue to watch from the sidelines as the 2017 Monster Energy AMA Supercross Championship heads to Daytona this weekend for round 10 of the series.
The Monster Energy/Yamalube/Chaparral/Yamaha Financial Services/Yamaha Factory Racing Team rider, who initially injured his shoulder in Minneapolis, took to the test track this week to gauge whether or not he could return this weekend.
According to Keith McCarty, motorsports racing division manager for Yamaha Motor Corporation, U.S.A., the former two-time 250SX champion doesn’t yet feel confident in making a return to premier class racing at the unique and challenging event.
“Cooper gave it a go on Wednesday and tested the fitness of his shoulder in practice, but he doesn’t feel that he’s ready yet to return to racing,” said McCarty. “The Daytona track can be one of the toughest on the supercross schedule, and it’s certainly no place for a rider who is not 100 percent. Cooper will continue to aggressively rehab his shoulder and get back to his fans and racing as quickly as possible.”
After missing three rounds of Monster Energy AMA Supercross Championship racing, the former 450SX podium placing rider now sits 12th overall in points with eight rounds remaining on the 2017 calendar.
