Multiple leg fractures sustained in Toronto main event incident.
GEICO Honda’s RJ Hampshire will miss the remainder of the 2017 Monster Energy AMA Supercross Championship East Coast 250SX rounds following a crash on the final lap of the Toronto main event.
It was today confirmed by the GEICO Honda squad that Hampshire sustained fractures to his lower tibula and fibula on his right leg in the incident.
Fortunately for the Florida-based rider, the injury is not expected to require surgery and the team expects their rider to be ready for the season-opening round of the 2017 Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship on 20 May in Hangtown.
“Bummed to announce that @Hampshire21 fractured his lower tib and fib last night on the last lap of the main,” the team announced via social media. “Luckily it looks like surgery is not necessary and he should be good to go for outdoors.”
Although injured in the crash, Hampshire remounted his factory-backed Honda CRF250R and finished out the 15-lap main event to finish the round in 14th position before receiving medical attention.
Hampshire’s injury makes him the second GEICO Honda rider to bow out of the East Coast 250SX series after 250SX rookie Chase Sexton suffered a broken femur at the first round in Atlanta.
