KTM factory racer takes out the overall in Bilbao round.
Red Bull KTM’s Alfredo Gomez claimed his first overall victory at the third and penultimate round of the 2017 FIM SuperEnduro World Championship in Bilbao, Spain.
Gomez kicked off his night in Bilbao with a runner-up finish in the opening heat followed up by two-consecutive heat victories to claim top honours aboard his KTM 300 EXC.
Claiming second place on the night was Gomez’s Red Bull KTM teammate Johnny Walker who made the switch to the KTM 350 SXC-F four-stroke for the Spanish event.
The British rider topped qualifying before going on the claim a consistent 1-4-2 heat scorecard to secure second place on the podium ahead of series leader Colton Haaker in third place.
Rounding out the top five behind Gomez, Walker and Haaker, it was Mario Roman who finished fourth aboard his Sherco and Manuel Lettenbichler rounding out the top five on his KTM.
Capturing his first overall victory Gomez now moves to within 11 points of series leader Haaker with one round remaining. Walker holds down third place on the championship standings followed by Roman and Pascal Rauchenecker.
The 2017 FIM SuperEnduro World Championship will now head to Albi in France for the final round of the championship on 18 March.
