The Motul MX Nationals series is poised to introduce a new location for this year’s championship finals, with Coolum removed from the provisional 2017 calendar on the series’ official website.

Promoter Williams Event Management (WEM) released an outline of the calendar in October, without listing specific locations, before Motorcycling Australia’s (MA) national calendar revealed the venues in November.

Updates to the MX Nationals website following that reflected MA’s calendar listed, however revisions made this week – round 10 now TBA – have confirmed that the Sunshine Coast circuit has been cut from the schedule. WEM director Kevin Williams said they are assessing options for the August finals after an agreement between the promoter and club failed to materialise.

“Following correspondence with the Coolum club president Justin Grover, the club has notified us in writing that they are no longer interested in hosting a round any further, so we’re now exploring a number of other options,” Williams commented when contacted by MotoOnline.com.au for clarification. “We’ll be making an announcement at the series launch this month.

“We have a number of opportunities and there are a number of clubs who are very excited at the opportunity to host the final round. The plan is to further enhance the final round of the series – we have even considered the concept used in Charlotte for the MXGP last year and are exploring a variety of different avenues.”

Coolum Pines MX Track – home of the Suncoast Junior Motorcycle Club – has been host of the final round since 2006, becoming one of the most historic venues on the calendar as a result of the MX Nationals title-deciding rounds held over more than a decade.
