Consistent start to season for factory KTM contender.
Red Bull KTM’s Marvin Musquin is feeling positive about his 2017 Monster Energy AMA Supercross Championship to date following two strong podium performances.
Musquin, a rider who admittedly prefers the softer east coast style circuits, has now put together two third place finishes in the 450SX category at the Anaheim 1 and San Diego rounds.
“I feel like I’m really happy because I’ve never really done really good on the west coast tracks,” Musquin told RacerX. “Anaheim 1 and today, San Diego, I feel like the tracks were pretty rough, pretty choppy.
“I don’t think those tracks are really my type of tracks, I feel better when it’s more rutted and more softer, more like east coast. So that’s why I’m really happy to be right here on the podium.”
In a bid to claw his way closer to the likes of Ken Roczen and his teammate, Ryan Dungey, Musquin will focus on eliminating costly errors such as a near crash in the early stages of the San Diego main event.
“I was really happy about my start and I was trying to be really aggressive and trying to pass Ryan,” he explained. “I went on the inside and doubled and it was not the rhythm that we were used to doing all the time. But I tried to jump on the next table. I don’t know what happened but I thought I was going to crash.
“We’ll keep working and obviously try to not make a mistake like I did on the first lap and try to be right there like I did tonight. Just to be better. It’s hard to say what I need to do better but we’ll keep working.”
Musquin currently sits third overall in the 2017 Monster Energy AMA Supercross Championship 450SX standings, 10 points behind series leader Roczen.
