WOODSTOCK HONDA THOR RACING:

Jeremy McGrath completed his two-round duties on the Woodstock Honda Thor Racing team at Parramatta Stadium with a classy and clever second place to 2008 series winner Chad Reed.

The format for the night’s racing suited McGrath who ensured he did enough to stay out of the bottom five in the three elimination races and then a near holeshot in the final race put “The King” of SuperX right in the mix with Chad Reed.

On the final lap McGrath was in second place and ready for a last corner charge from Jay Marmont. The Wise Old Owl of SuperX and out-thought and out-rode last week’s round winner through the whoops to score second place by 2/100ths of a second and remind everyone of his position as one of the top SuperX riders in the world- even when he’s officially in semi retirement.

“I knew it would be tough going in- four motos of six laps each is going to be a long night. In the first two motos I kinda conserved a little bit… The third and fourth race I got some awesome holeshots with Reedy”

On that final lap:

“I just had to be a little bit smart there. I was playing out what was going to happen for the whole lap, knowing that Jay was probably going to try to jump inside me and I was going to have to brake a little earlier and pass him. I think my experience really helped with tonight’s format.”

On 2010:

“Ideally I’d like to come down and race the series. We’ll see how that goes as I work for Honda and do the testing for the race team, but ultimately I’d like to to bring the family down and do the whole series.”

Fellow Woodstock Honda Thor Racing team member Dan Reardon had an utterly forgettable night after being eliminated in race two of the four race final.

The early signs were good for the then series leader who won heat one and then followed it up with a solid performance in the top ten shootout.

But it all went horribly wrong in the second of the elimination raceds when Reardon had a poor start and was unable to make up enough places to avoid elimination. His 12th place ended his night and would ultimately end his time at the top of the series table.

Reardon now sits in third place in the Australasian SuperX series, 10 points behind new leader Jay Marmont.

While team mate Dan Reardon was understandably disappointed with his elimination in the second round of the four race final, fellow Woodstock Honda Thor Racing rider Todd Waters was less disappointed with his night as his return to racing from injury continues.

Though not making the top ten shootout, once the racing began Waters showed plenty of pace, opening his night with a hard fought fifth place in heat one and then following that up with another fifth in round one of the elimination series.

In race three, a slow start left Todd with a lot to do and like Dan Reardon he was unable to make up enough places to progress into the next round.

Despite the way his night ended, it was a pleasing result for the 18 year old Queenslander, who will now look to improve in the remaining rounds of the series.

“Fantastic night for me- just great to be back. We’re not going for a championship, I’m just back here having a heap of fun- hanging out with my buddies. I miss being at the races. I’m in here and just trying to keep it safe…”
