Fresh from his podium run at Parramatta’s fifth round of the Monster Energy Super X, Australasian Supercross Championship, on Saturday night, Californian Jeremy McGrath is prepared to return for this year’s Brisbane season finale and the full season in 2010.
The seven-time AMA Supercross Champion revealed in a post-race Moto Talk with MotoOnline.com.au that he’s in discussions to make an unscheduled third appearance in the 2009 series, prepared to step in after it was announced that James Stewart won’t be coming to the round on 5 December in Queensland.
“There’s a good chance now that Stewart’s out,” said McGrath, who rides for Woodstock Honda Thor Racing while he’s down under. “I’ve told Yarrive [Konsky, WHTR team owner] and Mal [Peter, Super X general manager] that I’d do it, so it just depends on whether they get some other current big guy.
“I’d do it. I mean, Brisbane’s awesome and was fun last year, so now that I’m riding a little better it’d be fun for sure. Part of my heart is Australian so it would be good to be here. I’m keen to do it, so we’ll see.”
McGrath returned to the Unites States on Sunday evening after his successful two weeks in Australia, with plans already in place to contest the entire series in 2010 should his test schedule with the American Honda factory team enable him to.
“Ideally I’d like to come down and race the series,” he said. “We’ll see how that goes as I work for Honda and do the testing for the race team, but ultimately I’d like to to bring the family down and do the whole series.”
