GLOBAL ACTION SPORTS:

A crowd of 12,200 at Parramatta Stadium witnessed a sensational night of supercross racing tonight with dual world supercross champion, Chad Reed, dominating the Open class final to take the win and seven time world supercross champion, Jeremy McGrath, finishing a split second ahead of Jay Marmont to take second. Fans also got to enjoy great racing in the Pro Lites competition with Matt Moss taking out the round and wrapping up the overall championship.

The incredibly exciting Survival format featured in the final of the Open class and once again had the Sydney fans at the edge of their seats as they cheered the supercross stars on. The format pits 20 riders against each other in four, six lap sprints where the bottom five are eliminated after each race. The first six lap sprint saw young gun, Tye Simmonds, take the holeshot and lead the whole six laps with Reed getting closer after every lap. He held on right until the last lap where he made a small mistake on the whoops just before the finish line, which allowed Reed to make the pass and take the first win.

Crowd favourite Jay Marmont won the holeshot in the second race, but was taken out on the first corner, which forced him to put in another courageous effort to make his way through the pack to finish in the top ten and progress to the next final. Reed overtook race leader Daniel McCoy in the fourth lap to take the win. The unforgiving survival format meant that championship leader Daniel Reardon did not make it through due to his less than perfect race as well as top international rider Michael Byrne.

In the third six lapper Chad Reed took the holeshot and rode on for a dominant win with the King of Supercross Jeremy McGrath coming in second. Cheyne Boyd and Cameron Taylor both crashed and did not finish the race.

The final five that lined up at the start gate were Chad Reed, Tye Simmonds, Daniel McCoy, Jay Marmont and Jeremy McGrath. Reed took the holeshot and the win again with ‘The King’ holding off Jay Marmont to take second. Marmont’s third place gave him enough points to put him ahead in the championship one point ahead of Reed. Reardon is now in third.

“I felt great on the bike tonight and I was going for jumps that I haven’t been attempting at the other rounds. The atmosphere and crowd tonight were fantastic and it’s so good to have Jeremy out here racing. I idolised him when I was a kid so it is really special,” said Reed.

The Pro Lites riders competed in the Quad Challenge where they raced four, five lap sprints. There were some great battles and four different winners in each of the five lap races, but it was Matt Moss who rode consistently well to take out the round and the overall Pro Lites Championship. America’s Kyle Cunningham took out second place and Brendan Harrison finished third.

“I am pumped and can’t wipe the smile off my face. I have a great team behind me and they have helped keep me stay focused and race smart. I now have three championships out of four and it feels awesome. Thanks for all the fans for coming out tonight and for cheering me on,” said Moss.

The Monster Energy Super X will now make its way across the Tasman for the first time for the penultimate round of the championship on November 21 at Waikato Stadium, Hamilton.
