Queenslander testing factory YZ250F in California.
Multi-time Australian supercross and motocross champion Dan Reardon is in line to replace injured Star Yamaha athlete Colt Nichols for the 2017 Monster Energy Supercross series.
Reardon, who has been testing Star Yamaha’s YZ250F in America this week, revealed in an interview on VitalMX.com that he is open to the idea of stepping down to the 250 category despite spending several years in the premier 450 class.
“The only time I would really sign with a 250 team is if it’s a solid team – the team has to be good,” Reardon shared. “Obviously, I’ve been riding a 450 for the last couple of years, but a 250 is never a ‘no’ option because, you know, the bikes have a come a long way and every year they get stronger and stronger.
“I’m definitely open to the fact of riding a 250, I wasn’t pointed out of that series and that’s an option for me. Yeah, it might go against the grain for an older guy to be in that class, but there’s nothing saying that it can’t be done – I think it could be good.”
The popular Queenslander first moved to America in 2008 where he raced for the prestigious Geico Honda outfit amongst various other teams in the following years before coming home to race for a handful of seasons and ultimately retiring at the conclusion of 2012.
Reardon decided to make a fulltime return to the sport in 2015 where he earned the Australian Supercross Championship. In 2016, a knee injury saw the 30-year-old lack preparation heading into the championship, completing the six-round series third in the points standings.
