It was a missed opportunity for Todd Waters at Toowoomba’s second round of the 2016 Australian Supercross Championship following a costly main event error on a technical portion of the circuit.

After claiming victory in SX1 heat two, the Wilson Coolair Motul Factory Suzuki rider pushed to the front of the main event pack and found himself eight seconds ahead of his nearest rival before taking a heavy fall in the whoops section.

With his mid-week training paying off and a maiden 2016 SX1 victory in his sights, the Queenslander is remaining positive following the DNF result, admitting he isn’t 100 percent sure how the incident occurred.

“We’ve been working hard during the week – our speed was good, and we managed to get the win in the heat race which was a good start to the night,” said Waters. “When we got in to the main, I got a good start and I pulled about an eight second lead on the field and next minute I knew I was on my head.

“I’m not really sure what happened, I was in control and riding a good race but it wasn’t our night. I had felt fast through that section all night, but it bit me and sometimes that’s just what happens.”

With a DNF to his name in Toowoomba, Waters now sits 11th in points after entering the round as a title contender in fourth position.
