Four-week break beneficial for Western Australian.
CRF Honda Racing’s Kyle Webster is eager to replicate the same pace he demonstrated throughout Jimboomba’s season opener last month at this weekend’s second round of the 2016 Australian Supercross Championship in Toowoomba.
Webster raced to an impressive third place finish during his heat race at Jimboomba, recording a lap time that was half a second off race winner Hayden Mellross (DPH Yamaha).
While running just outside of the top five in the opening laps of the main event, the Western Australian’s night derailed following a mistake at the end of a rhythm section, forcing him to withdraw from the race.
“It was definitely good to show that I have the speed to run it up there around the top five,” Webster told MotoOnline.com.au. “I was a little nervous and rode really tight, so I ended up crashing in the main.”
“I was unsure of where I would be in the field at Jimboomba, so the heat race definitely gave me confidence for the main event. It’s something I want to build on and hopefully I can stay around that area.”
After taking a week off the bike following the crash, Webster explained that the four-week break has been beneficial to him as he continues to learn on the challenging and technical supercross circuits.
“It’s been good to have some more time to get into it, I’m a lot more comfortable after the four-week break. I was still learning a lot going into the first round, so I just want to make it through this weekend and make sure I finish,” he added.
Toowoomba Showgrounds will host round two of the 2016 Australian Supercross Championship this Friday, 14 October.
