Motocross champion relieved to be home following MXoN.
CDR Yamaha’s Dean Ferris will benefit from being able to maintain his focus solely on the 2016 Australian Supercross Championship following a strenuous schedule over the past month that saw him switch between disciplines.
After wrapping up the Australian MX1 title at the conclusion of August, Ferris went onto race the opening round of Australian supercross three weeks later before flying out to Italy the following day for the 2016 Monster Energy FIM Motocross of Nations.
The New South Welshman explained to MotoOnline.com.au that he is relieved to be back in Australia to place his attention on the supercross championship, especially after the taxing affect that travelling overseas can have on your body.
“I’m relieved to focus on supercross especially after the trip,” said Ferris. “It took a lot of effort, and it takes a lot of strain on your body to fly overseas with jet lag, and I even got sick over there. It’s good to be home to now focus on supercross.”
The 26-year-old is remaining optimistic about the remainder of the Australian supercross series despite stunning the industry with a surprising performance at Jimboomba’s opening around, where he placed a close second behind American Justin Brayton as he showcased his versatility as a rider.
“I think round one went pretty good, the only thing I can do better is to win. I’m still pretty optimistic about supercross, I want to go in with the same attitude that I did with Jimboomba, and that’s to be optimistic,” he continued.
Ferris assisted Australia to eighth overall at the MXoN just over one week ago in Europe and was also credited fourth overall in the Open category. His next racing appearance will be at Toowoomba’s second round of the Australian Supercross Champion on Friday, 14 October.
