Raceline Pirelli KTM press release:
Raceline Pirelli KTM riders Dylan Wills and Wade Kirkland are preparing to take on the talent packed SX2 class for the first time in 2016, with the opening round of the Australian Supercross Championship set to take place at Jimboomba in Queensland this Saturday night.
After a three week turn around from Motocross to Supercross, both Wills and Kirkland are looking forward to taking on some of the world’s best Supercross riders this weekend, with the team also eager to kick start its second race season for the year.
Wills shared that although there has only been a short time for riders to get ready for round one, that he’s feeling confident ahead of the Jimboomba season opener in Queensland this weekend.
“I’m really excited coming into round one of this year’s Supercross,” Wills shared.
“The turn around time was short, but I feel like we are in a good spot with the bike and my riding too.
“I’ve had a really solid two weeks with Jesse Dobson and we’ve both helped each other to improve everyday, so I’m really excited to get behind the gate at Jimboomba on Saturday.”
With the absence of the Under 19s class at Jimboomba, Kirkland will step up to the competitive SX2 class for the entire Supercross series, and says that despite this weekend being his first time racing the discipline, that he’s ready for the challenge.
“I’m getting more and more confident every day, and it’s been great to spend some time with the team testing to get a feel for things before round one,” Kirkland shared.
“I’ve never raced Supercross, but the team has done a great job getting me up to speed. There is going to be a lot of competition in the SX2 class so I don’t really have too many expectations at this point – we can only get better.
“I’m obviously unfamiliar with Supercross, so I’ll just be aiming to make the finals this weekend and then from there, just progress every round. I’m really excited!”
