Victorian supercross specialist returns to racing.
Lewis Woods has revealed to MotoOnline.com.au that he will contest the SX2 category with Davey Motorsports throughout the 2016 Australian Supercross Championship.
Woods will continue to race aboard a KTM SX-F 250, the same model that accompanied him to his first main event victory in 2015.
“I’m racing SX2 again this year in a similar program to 2015, but Davey Motorsports will be taking my bike around for me and I’ve just organised my own personal sponsors,” Woods explained. “They’re basically supplying me with the infrastructure, which enables me to fly in and out of the races.”
The Victorian stated that his preparation leading into the championship has surpassed last years effort, although a lack of seat-time in race conditions may play as a disadvantage to the 27-year-old.
“My preparation has been good, but obviously I haven’t done any racing all year, so that’s probably an advantage for the other guys. At the same time, I feel refreshed and I’m much more prepared this season.”
Jimboomba’s layout for this weekend’s opening round will remain significantly similar to it’s 2015 edition where Woods claimed an emotional win, which has sparked confidence in the KTM rider.
“The track is going to be pretty similar to last year, but obviously there are a few changes that will make it better. With the same type of track, I think I’ll have a good shot at doing well there again,” he expressed.
Woods completed the 2015 championship third in the points standings after recording numerous podiums throughout the series.
