Penultimate MX Nationals round takes top honours for 2016.
Toowoomba, the site of the ninth round of the 2016 Motul MX Nationals series, has been named as the Round of the Year following the successful penultimate round less than one month ago.
Motul MX Nationals series promoter, Kevin Williams, explained how Toowoomba was chosen, and congratulated the club members on their efforts in ensuring the event was a success.
“Every year once the championship has wrapped up, we look at our 10 host venues, then at the improvements to the track, the way the event is run, the club’s involvement, and a number of other factors to determine the Round of the Year,” Williams said.
“This year Toowoomba was nothing short of a stand out. After their event in 2015, the club made significant upgrades to the venue, they worked closely with our team to find out what they could do to improve things, and when we arrived for round nine, we were greeted with a world class venue.
“The team at Toowoomba really stepped things up, and we were blown away by the effort that they put in to make round nine such a great success. Toowoomba is more than deserving of the 2016 Round of the Year, and we’re very pleased to have worked with such a dedicated bunch of people.”
President of the Toowoomba club, Ryan Smith, expressed his gratitude towards the dedicated round nine volunteers, and explained the importance of the MX Nationals to the club.
“To get the venue ready for this year it took hours, days, and weeks of work from many of the machinery guys,” said Smith. “They worked all year to try things out, and by the time the MX Nationals came around, they picked the best of everything. We had the right weather, the right amount of water and the right amount of luck.
“We are very lucky in that we have a lot of people in the club who want to make a difference at the right level, and they all contributed equally which you can see from the end result.
“The MX Nationals is very important to our club. It’s a huge series, and it’s a great achievement to take ‘Round of the Year’. There are a number of high quality tracks on the calendar, and for our little club to pick it up this year is awesome.
“It takes about 80 people to make the day work, and 70 of those are definitely less glamorous roles. Even an hour from volunteers made a huge difference, and this is fantastic way to give everyone who contributed to the success of round nine, some well deserved acknowledgement.”
