KTM Enduro Racing Team’s Daniel Sanders has claimed the 2016 Australian Off-Road Championship outright title at Penshurst’s penultimate round in Victoria today.

Torrential rain leading into the event saw AORC officials forced to act quickly, switching the day’s format from Cross Country to Sprints.

Husqvarna’s Lyndon Snodgrass set the pace in the opening test to cross the finish line in first outright, posting the fastest time of 13m32.366s. He was followed by Yamaha’s Riley Graham (13m34.375s) and Daniel Sanders (13m37.070s).

Former MX Nationals regular Jack Simpson recorded a time of 13m37.579s to finish in fourth, followed by Peter Boyle (13m41.527s) in fifth.

The second test saw Snodgrass claim the number spot again, recording a total time of 27m13.805s, while Sanders (27m6.182s) settled for second.

Jack Simpson (27m13.048s) would negotiate the challenging second stage to position himself in third ahead of Peter Boyle (27m31.990s) and Yamaha’s Chris Hollis (27m58.990s).

Early leader Snodgrass made a costly mistake in the final test allowing Sanders to make the pass and claim the outright victory with a total time of 40m11.014s.

Snodgrass (40m17.005s) was awarded the runner-up spot at the conclusion of the day, with Simpson (40m29.107s) rounding out the overall podium in third. Peter Boyle (41m16.075s) and Broc Grabham (41m38.390s) would complete the top five to finish fourth and fifth respectively.

The final round of the Australian Off-Road Championship is scheduled to take place tomorrow, where champions will be crowned in their respective categories.
