Motorcycling Australia press release:
This weekend will mark the final event for the 2016 Yamaha Australian Off-Road Championship competitors as they head to Penshurst in Victoria this 10th and 11th of September for Rounds 11 & 12.
Looking back to Rounds 9 & 10 at the beginning of September, Husqvarna mounted Broc Grabham definitely made a dint in the championship riding to a 5,3 finish outright over the weekend and taking a 2,2 finish in his Championship E2 class.
The Monkerai terrain offered perfect conditions for riders over Rounds 9 & 10, with a slightly muddy, slippery and testing track, allowing them to move around on the bike, for the penultimate weekend of racing.
Grabham definitely used the track to his advantage in the second Cross Country race of the season, pulling off to a strong start in the 3-hour race, sitting in third just behind KTM Enduro Racing Team riders Daniel Sanders and Tye Simmonds.
However, by the half way mark in the race an unfortunate crash saw him drop in positions, crossing the line in fifth position overall. Grabham bettering his previous top finishing position of third in his class at Hedley, to finish the second Cross Country race of the season in second place in the Championship E2 class.
Sunday was a similar story for the Husqvarna FE 450 mounted rider as his hard work throughout the day to improve on times, saw him conclude the day in third position outright, amongst both Sanders and Simmonds.
Taking to the Monkerai terrain like a duck to water, Grabham finished the weekend with another second place finish in the E2 class, walking away with a Round 10 trophy and a smile.
From his stand out performance results at Rounds 9 & 10, Grabham now currently sits in third in the E2 championship points standings on 179 points, just behind KTM Enduro Racing Team’s Tye Simmonds on 231 points and CDR Yamaha’s Chris Hollis on 210 points heading in to this weekend’s formalities.
Grabham will now try his luck again this weekend, as the New South Welshman makes his way to Penshurst in Victoria for the final two rounds of the Yamaha Australian Off-Road Championship this September 10-11.
