Jay Marmont has revealed that he will contest the 2016 Australian Supercross Championship in what is a surprise comeback after retiring from professional racing in 2014.

Marmont confirmed the news to MotoOnline.com.au, stating that he will take part in the six-round series aboard a Husqvarna FC450.

“I’ve decided I’m going to make a supercross return, I’ve just found the motivation that I was missing from my racing,” Marmont explained.

“After I retired from racing, Husqvarna have helped me out through my coaching. They’ve upped my program this year and organised a couple of FC450’s for me.”

Marmont won his last professional supercross championship in 2012, and despite working on coal mines for the past 18 months, he is adamant that he will remain as a title contender.

“I want to win the championship – I feel like my pace is good, but my fitness could up there a little bit more.”

“My biggest concern is just not being in a race for the past two years, I’m just going to have to take it as it comes and go in with a level head,” he added.

While still finalising arrangements with personal sponsors, Jay will mostly be part of his younger brother’s (Ryan Marmont) MXR&D program, which currently supports MXD rider Connor Tierney.

Round one of the Australian Supercross Championship is scheduled to take place at Jimboomba in Queensland on September 17.
