YAMAHA RACING:

The fourth round of the 2009 Monster Energy Super X series at Canberra Stadium this Saturday marks the halfway point of the championship and will be vital to Yamaha’s squad of factory riders in the Open and Lites categories.

After coming so close to a podium finish last weekend in Perth, CDR Rockstar Yamaha pilot, Cheyne Boyd believes that he is capable of challenging for a top placing at tomorrow’s first Super X event in the nation’s capital.

Following an impressive string of top three finishes, Serco Yamaha has decided to retain American Kyle Cunningham for the remainder of the Lites season with the 20-year-old currently holding down second in the point score and striving to close in on championship leader Matt Moss.

The popular Triple Challenge race format will make its return to the series in both the Open and Lites categories.

Super X Open

A refreshed and invigorated Cheyne Boyd will take to the gate at the fourth round of the 2009 Monster Energy Super X series after the Victorian narrowly missed the podium last weekend in Perth.

Boyd, who is one of the fittest riders in the Open class, said he has revised his training schedule this week and believes that he will be a real chance to finish on the podium at the conclusion of competition tomorrow night.

“I’ve just had some time off the bike this weekend to give my body a bit of a chance to recover from the hectic start to the season,” Boyd said. “I have been continuing with my off-the bike training and overall I feel refreshed and ready to go.

“It has been a really tough start to the season and after finishing fourth in Perth and being one step off the podium I am more determined then ever to make it inside the top three this weekend.”

CDR Rockstar Yamaha Team Principal Craig Dack has placed no expectation whatsoever on Jay Marmont to compete this weekend with the news that the YZ450F rider has endured one of the most tragic and difficult times of his life over the past few days.

The current Australian Motocross Champion has been given the option to spend this weekend with his family and no decision has been made as yet as to if he will take the gate at Canberra Stadium tomorrow night.

The whole of the Yamaha Racing family would like to extend their thoughts to Jay and his wife Abby at this sad time.

Super X Lites

With a string of podium finishes to his name, Serco Yamaha has decided to retain Kyle Cunningham for the remainder of the 2009 Monster Energy Super X series.

Cunningham, who is from Texas, was originally drafted into the Yamaha factory Lites team to fill in for Mitch Hoad who was recovering from an arm injury.

After finishing inside the top three in the opening three rounds of the series, Cunningham will now stay in Australia for the remaining four rounds of the championship with the 20-year-old vowing to take the fight to 250cc class championship leader, Matt Moss.

“Last round was good considering that I didn’t get a good start and I went down over the whoops on the first lap. However, I was able to fight back and claimed third,” Cunningham said.

“This weekend I just need to make sure I get out of the gate in front and stay out there so I’ve got more of a chance to battle with Matt [Moss] while not having to worry about making up any ground lost.”

Cunningham’s team and flat-mate, Kirk Gibbs is also hoping for an improved result this weekend after falling heavily during the last round of the series in Perth.

“I had a few crashes in Perth last weekend and I pulled up from the event really sore,” Gibbs said. “I have had a bit of a break off the bike this week and went riding again yesterday.”

“With the event format being the Triple Challenge, it will be important for me to get three good starts and to just keep the bike on two wheels and hopefully we’ll walk away with a podium finish.”
