America will field Cooper Webb (MXGP), Alex Martin (MX2) and Jason Anderson (Open) in the 2016 FIM Motocross of Nations at Maggiora in Italy on 24-25 September, it was confirmed at the Unadilla round of Lucas Oil Pro Motocross.

Current 250MX points leader Webb will lead Team USA’s hopes in the MXGP ranks, stepping up to the 450 ahead of his fulltime transition with Yamaha next season. He rode as the squad’s Open entry last year.

“I’m looking forward to going back again this year and trying to win,” Webb said. “Last year, we came very close, but still got second. We have another chance this year to win – I’m looking forward to redemption. Riding MX1 is a huge honour.”

The addition of Alex Martin and Anderson to the team is new for 2016. Martin currently sits third in the 250MX standings, while Anderson has been sidelined since the High Point national with a broken collarbone. He’s expected to return next weekend at Budds Creek.

“Every year it seems to be harder to get our Motocross of Nations team together, with racers’ busy schedules and injuries,” team manager Roger DeCoster said. “This is one of the youngest teams we have put together over the years, but I am confident these three guys can do the job.

“They had a good battle in France last year, and he feels his chances are better this time around. Alex has been very strong in the outdoors and is one of a few guys who can come from behind and finish strong.”

The youthful Team USA came together after Ryan Dungey ruled himself out of the running – instead doing the SMX Cup a week later in Germany – and then Eli Tomac opted to take time off as he will have to contest both American MXGP rounds due to sponsor commitments.
