Australians shine in Junior Motocross World Championship

Team Australia wins international team event in Russia.

Kicking off the 2016 FIM Junior Motocross World Championship in Orlyonok, Russia, it was the Czech Republic’s Jakub Teresak leading moto one of the Junior 125cc category with Australia’s Riley Dukes in tow.

Dutch rider, Roan Van de Moosdijk, quickly made his way to the front of the pack ahead of Teresak and Dukes to run away with the moto one victory ahead of Jago Geerts, Teresak and Australian riders Caleb Grothues and Rukes. Fellow Australian contender, Cody Dyce, was 10th.

Latvia’s Rainers Zuks made his presence known with a holeshot in the second race ahead of Geerts and Van de Moosdijk. Geerts quickly made his way into the lead and eventually captured the race win ahead of Van De Moosdijk and Teresak.

After running in third for the majority of the race, Australia’s Dukes finish the moto in fourth with fellow Aussie Grothues in fifth. Dyce would finished moto two in seventh position.

Claiming the overall Junior 125cc victory it was Geerts ahead of Van De Moosdijk, Teresak, Dukes and Grothues. Dyce would finish the event with an eighth place overall ranking.

In the Junior 85cc class it was Austria’s Rene Hofer who dominated the field, kicking off his campaign with a moto one victory before wrapping it up with a second victory in moto two.

Behind Hofer it was Meico Vettik who finished second on the day with a 2-4 moto scorecard followed by Maksim Kraev, Nikita Petrov and Australia’s Dante Hyam.

Hyam, aboard his KTM, used a solid 6-6 moto scorecard to secure his top five finish amongst a stacked field of international contenders.

Team Australia wrapped up their 2016 FIM Junior Motocross World Championship campaign with the team event victory ahead of Russia, The Netherlands, Czech Republic and Latvia.
