450 and 250 Class points leaders sweep round 10 motos.
RCH Soaring Eagle/Jimmy John’s/Suzuki Factory Racing’s Ken Roczen rebounded from his Washougal loss to take a clean sweep of both 450 Class motos at the Unadilla Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship event.
Moto one saw the German rider quickly make his way to the front of the pack and steadily extend his lead over the 30-minute race. Behind Eli Tomac, Marvin Musquin, Justin Barcia and Weston Peick battled it out for the remaining top five spots.
Tomac, aboard his Monster Energy Kawasaki, finished claimed the runner-up position ahead of Red Bull KTM’s Musquin with the Autotrader/Monster Energy/Yamaha duo of Barcia and Peick rounding out the top five.
Roczen captured the moto two holeshot and quickly began to pull a gap on his competitors once again. Musquin gained control of second position followed by Phil Nicoletti and Dean Wilson of the Red Bull KTM team.
450 Class rookie, Benny Bloss, made a suprise appearance inside the top three during the race, riding as high as second position before being passed by Musquin and Tomac dropping him back to fourth place as the chequered flag flew.
With Roczen on top of the overall podium it was Musquin in second with 3-2 moto scores followed by Tomac in third followed by Bloss and Barcia to round out the top five.
Roczen now leads Tomac by 63 points in the championship chase with Musquin holding down third place followed by Barcia in fourth and Rockstar Husqvarna Factory Racing’s Christophe Pourcel in fifth.
In the 250 Class it was Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki’s Adam Cianciarulo who jumped to the early lead in moto one followed by Yamalube Yamaha Racing’s Cooper Webb, Arnaud Tonus and Joey Savatgy.
Webb gained control of the race lead on lap six and went on to capture the moto win with Savatgy crossing the line in second followed by Aaron Plessinger, Cianciarulo and Justin Hill.
Moto two saw rookie Austin Forkner take the early lead before Webb once again took the race lead before a downed rider forced the moto to be red flagged.
Due to the amount of the race that had been completed at that stage, Webb was awarded the moto win followed by Forkner in second and Plessinger in third.
With Webb claiming the 1-1 overall victory it was teammate Plessinger who took second with a pair of third place finishes ahead of Forkner in third, Hill in fourth and RJ Hampshire rounding out the top five.
The Australian 250 Class duo of Jackson Richardson and Luke Clout finished up the event with 30th and 35th place overall finishes respectively.
