Queensland Yamaha Junior Racing’s Jake Williams claimed the 2016 Sunshine State Motocross Series win in the 15 years 250cc division at the final round held at Toowoomba’s Echo Valley over the weekend.

Williams entered the final round in a commanding position having not lost a race at the opening four rounds and only needed to complete the first race to nail down the series win. But Williams was determined to keep his good form going and went on to win the final round with 1-2-1 results and earned 522 points from a possible 525 available.

He was simply a class above on his YZ250F throughout the series and deserved his victory.

He backed that up with a strong on his YZ125 to finish second in the series, just 10 points behind series winner and follow Yamaha rider, Jack Kukas. Williams and Kukas entered the final round just three points apart in what has been a good battle between the pair but Williams’ hopes of winning the series were dashed in race two at Toowoomba when he was involved in a first turn pile up.

Jake continued to fight on throughout the day and finished the round in third with 3-4-1 results and left the Echo Valley circuit feeling positive about his season.

“My goal was two win both classes and I went pretty close,” Williams explains. “Jack and I had some great races on the 125 and I enjoyed racing with him but today I was able to improve on a few things and although I didn’t win, I learned a lot.

“The 250 was good and I love riding the bike. It is the best bike in the class and mine was perfect at every round.

“Thank you to Yamaha Junior Racing and our team sponsors for all their support during the series as well the people and sponsors who make this series happen,” Williams ends.

Levi Rogers continued to make progress on his return to racing from a broken ankle. With a couple of weeks riding under his belt since the last round, Rogers looked much better on the bike despite still wary of his ankle on the rut infested track.

Rogers posted a fifth place finish in the 12-14 years 85cc class and showed good speed on the 125 as he learns the bike.

Despite missing a round due to his ankle injury, Levi still finished eighth overall on his 85cc in a very competitive class.

“I had a crash on each bike today that hurt me in the results but my riding is better than it was at Chinchilla so that’s good. We have a few more weeks until the first round of our state title so I will be able to get some more bike time and keep riding better,” Rogers said.
